Here we go folks, the time has finally arrived. The Brooklyn Nets are sitting pretty on a goldmine of assets with five first-round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, more than any other team. They have flexibility, options, and leverage are all on their side. Now, just hours before the action begins, it is time for the front office to push a few of those chips in.
Here is a trade I think Brooklyn should be seriously exploring:
Nets send: Pick 8 + Pick 36 + Nic Claxton
Wizards send: Pick 6
Why it makes sense for Washington:
The Washington Wizards are another team that is fully committed to a rebuild. After flipping Jordan Poole to the Pelicans for CJ McCollum and Kelly Olynyk not too long ago, it is clear they want experienced veterans who can help stabilize the locker room while the younger players grow. A player that can help with this is Brooklyn’s big man Nic Claxton.
Yes Washington already has Alex Sarr and they just traded for Olynyk but with that being said the Wizards do not have a true rim-protecting center on the roster. Claxton is only 25 years old and has developed into one of the league’s best defenders at his position. He plays hard, anchors the paint, and has all the tools to continue to grow as a player. He would step in immediately as a tone-setting piece. Not only that, Washington would also gain two more draft picks, giving them a chance to load up on young talent and address multiple areas. It is the kind of deal that gives a rebuilding team great options to work with.
Why is makes sense for Brooklyn:
The 6th overall pick puts them in striking distance of a true difference-maker. If they truly have got their eye on someone like Jeremiah Fears or if the rumors of Ace Bailey slipping down the board is true, then this is their shot. Bailey’s ties to Brooklyn have grown louder ever since he reportedly canceled his meeting with the Sixers. But he is unlikely to drop to pick 8. If the Nets really want him, they can’t sit and wait, they need to act.
The best part of this deal:
It does not require giving up Cam Johnson. That is extremely important. Brooklyn keeps one of their most tradable pieces intact for future deals or if they want as a veteran leader for the young core. Brooklyn has played the long game wisely. Now it is time to take the kind of swing that could define the next era of Nets basketball.
