The Brooklyn Nets have spent the last few seasons trying to rebuild not just their roster, but their identity. Now, as the 2025 NBA Draft approaches, all signs point to the Nets eyeing an aggressive move to bring in a talent who might just need the right culture to thrive,  Rutgers star Ace Bailey.

Bailey, earlier this year deemed as a top-three pick, has become one of the draft’s most intriguing and polarizing prospects. While the Philadelphia 76ers at No. 3 and Charlotte Hornets at No. 4 hold early picks, Bailey’s camp has expressed confidence that if those teams pass on him, others won’t hesitate to act. “Should the 76ers, at No. 3, and Charlotte at No. 4, elect not to draft him, Bailey's camp has expressed the belief that teams such as the Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, or Brooklyn Nets, picking No. 6, 7 and 8, will be aggressive looking to move up in the draft and select him,” sources told ESPN.

This puts the Nets in a fascinating position.

Holding the No. 8 pick, Brooklyn has the chance to shake up the draft order if they believe Bailey is the player who can help shape their future. Known for their sharp front office and willingness to take risks, the Nets could be ready to trade up in the draft to secure Bailey, a move I believe they need to make.

Bailey’s skill set makes him a tempting prize. At 6-foot-8, he blends smooth scoring with defensive versatility and a frame that projects well for NBA growth. His shot-making ability is already advanced, boasting range and footwork that defy his young age. While some question his consistency and playmaking instincts, his upside as a dynamic wing player capable of impacting both ends is undeniable.

Why Brooklyn needs to do this:

For Brooklyn, drafting Bailey would align perfectly with their rebuild blueprint which is to find a player with star potential who thrives in the right environment and offers upside that outweighs risk. The Nets have shown patience through their rebuild, but the 2025 draft might be the moment to turn up the heat especially with this latest news.

If Bailey is still on the board by the fifth pick the first round, do not be surprised if Brooklyn pulls off a trade to go after him. Remember the Nets are not  just playing for today, they are aiming to build a foundation that lasts, and Ace Bailey could be the cornerstone they have been desperately searching for.
