The Brooklyn Nets’ first trade of this offseason feels like the start of something truly promising. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania the Nets are acquiring Terance Mann and the 22nd overall pick in a three-team deal with the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics. This is not just another routine transaction, it sends a crystal-clear message about Brooklyn’s direction. The move shows the Nets are serious about stockpiling assets and setting themselves up for a bigger future, one that feels more thoughtful and strategic than the last few years.

Terance Mann might not be a huge name for Nets fans yet, but he is exactly the kind of versatile, experienced player who fits Brooklyn’s rebuild perfectly. Last season, Mann shot nearly 37% from three and averaged close to 8 points per game while playing under 20 minutes a night, showing he can be efficient in a supporting role. Beyond the numbers, Mann brings the intangible qualities Brooklyn needs which is he has the potential to mentor younger players, bring a professional attitude, and contribute valuable minutes. Thanks to Brooklyn’s cap space flexibility, the team was able to absorb his contract, but the real prize here is not just Mann, it is the draft pick they received in return.

That 22nd overall pick is the real centerpiece of this deal.

With this addition, the Nets now hold an impressive six selections in the 2025 NBA Draft. They have picks 8, 19, 22, 26, 27, and 36. This collection of first and early second-round picks puts Brooklyn in a powerful position in what is shaping up to be a deep and talented draft class. It is clear the Nets are banking on the draft as their best route to rebuilding a championship-contending roster, choosing patience and asset accumulation.

For Nets fans, this has got to be a breath of fresh air. It marks a shift away from years of uncertainty and short-term fixes toward a more confident, long-term plan. Sean Marks and the front office are finally showing a willingness to use their assets strategically, whether through smart drafting options or developing young talent in the system.

My gut reaction?

This was a very smart move in an offseason that has already been so unpredictable so far. The Nets are beginning to look like a team with a real plan, and this trade feels like the opening chapter of what could be an exciting new era. For Brooklyn supporters, it is the kind of move you want to see which should be full of promise.
