The Brooklyn Nets have had many great players pass through throughout their time as a franchise. Many of the team's legends thrived during its New Jersey era, including Jason Kidd, Drazen Petrovic, and the man of the hour, Vince Carter. After an honorable career, the Nets announced they would retire Carter's jersey during the 2024-25 season. The legendary shooting guard confirmed the date his retirement would occur in a social media reveal.

"What's up ya'll it's Vince Carter here. January 5th, it is official. No. 15 goes up in the rafters at the Barclay's Center alongside Dr. J and Jason Kidd. Come join us. It should be fun. It should be special," Carter said, via the Nets' X (formerly Twitter) page.

The Nets will face off against the Miami Heat on Jan. 25 Saturday of Carter's jersey ceremony. The matchup will be sure to be competitive, as Brooklyn honors a franchise legend.

Vince Carter: a Nets legend

Vince Carter joined the Nets during the 2004-2005 season after a seven-year stint with the Toronto Raptors. The high-flying shooting guard made an immediate impact in New Jersey during his first year. He averaged 27.2 points per game and shot a red-hot 42.5 percent on his three-pointers. He continued his momentum into the next season, averaging 24.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. Carter followed the year up with averages of 25.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.8 assists during the 2006-07 season before slightly regressing to 21.3 points per game in 07-08.

Carter ended his final season in New Jersey with averages of 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists. The former offensive threat accumulated three NBA All-Star appearances with New Jersey by the end of his tenure. Carter then had stints with the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, and Atlanta Hawks before retiring from basketball.

Nets fans still get their fill of Carter through his insightful basketball analysis. Carter works as a Brooklyn Nets Game Analyst for YES Network. Despite conducting most of his work off the court, Carter caught fans' eyes with an impressive athletic display ahead of the 2024-25 season. The 47-year-old performed a single-hand jam at Barclay's Center for NBA Dunk Week in late August.

Vince Carter's jersey retirement will be an iconic moment in franchise history that Nets fans will not want to miss. The Jan. 25 game against the Heat is scheduled to tip off at 5:00 PM EST.
