Nets forward Cam Johnson posted a 3-Point Contest low of 14 points during his underwhelming NBA All-Star weekend appearance, tying Clippers guard Norman Powell for the worst bricks thrown up in San Francisco.
Johnson made just five of his first 17 attempts off the rack in one of the more forgettable instances of a Nets player involved in All-Star festivities to put it mildly. In his defense, Johnson carried immense pressure as both a first-time competitor and the first shooter out of the gate.

The contest’s other first-round eliminations weren’t strides off from Johnson and Powell, though. Former No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham (16), Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson (18) and two-time defending 3-Point Contest winner Damian Lillard (18) all fell within four points. Unfortunately, that’s back-to-back sports weekends where anticipated three-peat efforts died in anticlimactic fashion.
Cleveland standout Darius Garland, 2020 winner Buddy Hield and first-time NBA All-Star Tyler Herro ultimately advanced to the final round, and the trio’s sharpshooting frontrunner was apparent. Hield had just posted a monstrous 31-point opening run, matching the all-time single round record set by two-time champion Stephen Curry, expected to close the show with another shooting clinic.
Somehow, Hield suddenly went cold and finished just shy of Herro’s final 24 points in a title clash that came down to the Golden State sniper’s money-ball rack — one short where he needed all five to secure the title (after stunningly missing his first seven attempts in a row). Miami’s Herro has now joined Glen Rice (1995), Jason Kapono (2007), Daequan Cook (2009) and James Jones (2011) as one of five 3-Point Contest champions in Heat history.
Johnson missed a golden opportunity to be the one that emerged from this wide-open field. Instead, Herro reigns and takes some Saturday spotlight.
