The Brooklyn Nets acquired Bojan Bogdanovic in the Mikal Bridges trade. The 6’7 forward had a disappointing stint with the Knicks, but Sean Marks and the front office hoped to rebuild his value. Bogdanovic has long been a plus scorer and his experience is valuable to a young squad.
Fans have been waiting for Bogdanovic to return. He has been out with a foot injury, but there was no word on when he planned to suit up until Feb. 19. Sadly, the update came that Nets fans feared.
Bojan Bogdanovic needs foot surgery and is out for the season
Shams Charania reported the news on Wednesday. Bogdanovic had foot surgery after his injury with the Knicks but needs another. The 35-year-old will miss the entire 2024-25 season and is set to become a free agent this offseason.
The Nets are unlikely to re-sign him. Brooklyn hoped to rebuild his value and flip him before the trade deadline, but Bogdanovic could not get healthy. Bogi has not played since April 28, 2024. It will be a difficult recovery from a second foot surgery for the 35-year-old.
The veteran will likely be searching for a minimum contract in the offseason. Expect some contender to give him a chance if he can prove he is healthy. If not, fans may have already seen his last NBA game.
The Brooklyn Nets are just beginning a total rebuild. They have already won 20 games and are just 1.5 games out of the final Play-In Tournament berth, but should look to improve their lottery odds down the stretch. The Nets need a star like Cooper Flagg at the top of their roster if they want to be serious contenders.
Brooklyn is expected to have the most cap space this summer, but fans should not expect the Nets to be significant players in free agency. They will likely use the room to acquire more draft capital and young talent by taking on unwanted salaries from opposing teams. The franchise is multiple years away from competing with the best teams and has to make wise moves to get back to that position.
Bojan Bogdanovic stared his NBA career with the Nets, but will likely not play a game with the franchise during this stint. He just could not get healthy. Hopefully, this surgery goes as planned and Bogdanovic is back on the court next season. Fans know he can get buckets, and everyone will be excited to see him doing it again. Stay tuned for all the latest.
