The Brooklyn Nets have had the pleasure of receiving some of the most entertaining and engaging sportscasting in the NBA. Longtime YES Network play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle has been one of the top voices covering the Nets for nearly 30 years. Almost every Nets fan has heard him say an iconic phrase such as "That's a man's jam!" or "Joey Buckets" (referring to ex-marksman and 2024 retiree Joe Harris).
The Nets took the liberty of putting together a must-see compilation of some of Eagle's most funny broadcasting moments, referring to him as a "national treasurer," via the team's Instagram page.
The compilation shows a bit of everything, including Eagle claiming "Blondes have more fun" after a golden-haired Nic Claxton dunk, comedically cutting off his fellow analyst, and even playing rock, paper, scissors.
Eagle brings an energy to Nets games that is unmatched, and fans cannot wait to hear his voice again during the 2024-25 season.
Ian Eagle is a national treasurer
Eagle became the radio voice of the Nets in 1994 and moved to the television side one year later, per his YESNetwork.com bio. He has served YES Network for 22 years and has been one of the most versatile and respected playcasters in the country.
In 2022, Eagle won his seventh consecutive New York Emmy, and eight in 10 years, for Sports Play-by-Play for his Nets work on YES. Moreover, Eagle earned National Sports Emmy nominations in 2022, 2021, and 2019 for his NCAA March Madness play-by-play work for CBS Sports and Turner Sports. Eagle served as "the Voice" of the 2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four, YES notes.
Furthermore, Eagle has been named the New York State Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association five times (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018). The association later named him National Sportscaster of the Year in 2022.
Ian Eagle has too many accolades to name, and one thing he never fails to accomplish is bringing Nets fans joy during games. With the new era of Brooklyn basketball approaching due to Sean Marks' rebuilding efforts, Eagle will have to come with up fresh phrases.
It will be exciting to continue to experience Eagle's coverage with the Nets during the 2024-25 season and beyond.
