Following years of scraps, Brooklyn has complete control of its future again after reloading on draft capital through the trades of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and Mikal Bridges, among others, over the last three seasons.
Nets general manager Sean Marks has still shown an ability to pinpoint talent with late picks, nonetheless finding Jarrett Allen (2017), Nicolas Claxton (2019), Cam Thomas (2021) and the 2023 NBA Draft trio of Noah Clowney, Dariq Whitehead and Jalen Wilson, all outside of the lottery.
Now, this year Brooklyn is set to have its first lottery selection since the franchise took Derrick Favors at No. 3 in 2010, one of 15 first-round picks for the Nets across the next seven drafts.
This presents a different type of pressure for a front office desperate to rebuild. Cooper Flagg, Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe, etc. in 2025. AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer, Nate Ament, etc. in 2026. Tyran Stokes, Brandon McCoy, Caleb Holt, etc. in 2027. One or more of these pieces could potentially be the future of the league, maybe even the Nets.

Brooklyn has more than enough to work with through 2031, but what this team is able to become with these picks won’t truly be felt for years. Considering draft assets, cap space, young talent and the coaching staff in place, though, the Nets have all necessary tools to start building an Eastern Conference contender, as long as they don't strike out in the upcoming offseasons.
