It is not often that a potential star tries to ghost half the teams in the league. Ace Bailey is making NBA teams uncomfortable, and that might be exactly what Brooklyn needs.

Once considered a top-three lock, the 6'8 Rutgers wing has now gone deep into the pre-draft process without visiting a single NBA team. According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, “Bailey’s predraft strategy has perplexed NBA teams over the past month, as he is currently the only U.S.-based prospect yet to visit any clubs. He has declined invitations from multiple teams in his draft range, which is considered to be anywhere from No. 3 to No. 8.”

Why does that matter for Brooklyn?

That range matters because the Brooklyn Nets are sitting at No. 8, and suddenly, a player with top-end talent might fall right into their lap. Bailey is one of the most naturally gifted scorers in this class. He can shoot from NBA range, create off the dribble, finish above the rim, and defend multiple positions when he is fully locked in. He also has the physical tools to grow into a matchup nightmare on both ends of the floor.

But he is not for everyone. His game leans heavily on tough shots, which do not always fall. His assist numbers are low, reflecting a style that can sometimes feel isolating. He plays with confidence that occasionally crosses into tunnel vision, which might raise concerns about his fit in a team-focused NBA. Still, what he is, more than anything, is available. And that was not supposed to happen.

The Nets have been operating with patience since hitting the reset button.

They have gone through their rebuild process so far without any shortcuts, avoiding headline-chasing moves that sacrifice long-term value. But it is important to note that drafting a player like Bailey would not be noise for the sake of it, it actually would be a calculated swing on a player with real star upside who just might need the right situation to unlock it.

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the Nets have done their homework. They have seen the flashes of brilliance  that Bailey can offer. Now, all they have to decide is whether they are willing to embrace the risk that comes with the reward. And if Bailey’s still on the board at No. 8, that decision might be waiting for them.
