Players come and go like clockwork in professional sports, but sometimes you can’t help but ask, where are they now?
We’ve almost all been fired, replaced with someone else or simply decided to move on at some point in our professional careers. It's just an unfortunate but relatable part of life for everyone. Below are five former Brooklyn Nets players who faced that same inevitable fate, now soul searching in 2025 – jobless.
Jaylen Martin (2024)
You won’t have to go too far back at all for the first player on our list.
Martin, who signed a two-way deal with the Nets back in February 2024, was recently waived on Jan. 1. The 20-year-old guard went undrafted in 2023 and became a member of the G League’s Westchester Knicks after originally starting his career with the YNG Dreamerz (Overtime Elite). Martin averaged just one point and 1.7 minutes through three appearances with Brooklyn this season.
Tyler Johnson (2020-2021)
Johnson played 39 games for the Nets during their 2020-21 campaign, posting 5.4 points, two rebounds and 1.2 assists in 17.5 minutes per game. Brooklyn ultimately let Johnson walk following its playoff elimination to the eventual NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks.
The eight-year veteran also spent time with the Heat, Suns, 76ers and Spurs throughout his stint in the league, which peaked from 2016-2019. In July 2022, the Brisbane Bullets signed Johnson to his most recent professional basketball gig for the 2022-23 NBL season in Australia.
Joe Harris (2016-2023)
Harris is a beloved Brooklyn Nets sharpshooter who graced the roster from 2016-2023 and easily became the franchise’s leader in three-point makes (984), passing the likes of Jason Kidd (813), Kerry Kittles (687) and Vince Carter (638) along the way. The 2019 Three-Point Contest winner spent his tenth and final season with the Detroit Pistons before announcing his retirement in August 2024.
Through 504 regular season games with the Cavaliers, Nets and Pistons, Harris averaged 10.3 points, three rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 43.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Chris McCullough (2015-2017)
Brooklyn drafted McCullough via Syracuse with the No. 29 overall pick in 2015, later trading him to Washington alongside Bojan Bogdanovic in February 2017 for Andrew Nicholson, Marcus Thornton and a 2017 protected first-round pick.
The former D-League All-Star has been out of the NBA since 2018, leaning into an international career and last playing for the 2023-24 Formosa Dreamers in Taiwan. The 29-year-old New York native became a Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup Champion as part of the 2019 San Miguel Beermen.
